Alabama Escapes, Boise State Beats Down Oregon State, LSU Ups West Virginia

I thought that Alabama was weaker than the national title team that won it all last season. Maybe they are. I'm not saying that the Razorbacks are bad. In this matchup Ryan Mallett impressed Heisman voters once more passing for more than 350 yards(357) for the second straight game against two good SEC teams. In his second game back Mark Ingram had another impressive performance rushing for 157 yards on 24 carries including the game winning touchdown to give the Tide the 24-20 win.

Boise State willnot play another ranked team until November. So it was critical that they won last night against a sneaky Oregon State Beavers team. Kellen Moore again had a good game passing for 288 yards and three scores. But it was the run game that proved to be the difference maker. Backup Doug Martin had a big game too rushing for 138 yards on 19 carries proving that Jeremy Avery and D.J. Harper aren't the only ones that can run effectively. Both the passing and ground game for the Beavers were off sync as Heisman canidate back Jacquizz Rodgers rushed for just 46 yards and quarterback Ryan Katz passed for just 159. What does this mean for Boise? Another ranked win on their BCS resume.

LSU already had an impressive win over UNC and was looking for another one against 22nd ranked West Virginia. It was definitely not a passing war. Geno Smitht the natural scrambler for the Mountaineers had 119 passing yards which beat out the Tiger's Jordan Jefferson's 75. The ground game was strong as Steven Ridley had 116 rush yards but gamebreaker Noel Devine had just 37 all purpose yards. Both Smith and Jefferson also both had a combined three interceptions.
