SE: Saints vs. Vikings, Colts vs. Jets/Chargers

It's almost all set. In the NFC, the championship game will be the Saints vs. Vikings. New Orleans took down the Arizona Cardinals 45-14. Drew Brees had a big day going 23-32, 247 yards and three touchdowns. Reggie Bush also had a productive day with five carries for 84 yards and one touchdown. The Vikings Brett Favre went 15-24 for 234 yards and four touchdowns. Sidney Rice caught three of those four touchdowns and had six catches for 141 yards. My prediction: Saints, 34-28.

In the AFC championship it will be the Colts vs. the winner of the Jets and Chargers. Deep in the fourth the Jets are leading 17-14. The Colts are still dangerous as Peyton Manning won the MVP award. Austin Collie, Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon will help Manning out. The Jets need a turnover free game from Mark Sanchez and a monster performance from Thomas Jones. San Diego needs a healthy LaDanian Tomlinson and a strong defensive performance. My prediction Colts, 31-21.

Former Champs Fall Again, Purdue Continues Cold Streak

When, the Tar Heels lost Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington the Tar Heel's repeat hopes were drowned until the team reloaded. With a tough strength of schedule they had fallen to No. 13 in the nation now playing No. 18 Georgia Tech, who had already beat Duke this season. Georgia Tech had a strong inside game led by Derrick Favors. But, it was Iman Shumpert (right) who provided the spark in the 73-71 win. Shumpert had 30 points. Will Graves had 24 for the 'Heels.

Purdue had moved up to No. 4 in the nation and an undefeated record until Wisconsin beat them and they fell to No. 6 in the nation. Next, still in Big Ten play it was Ohio State who had a late run as guard Evan Turner dominated. Now, against Northwestern, the Boilermakers were bound to get a win, right? Wrong. Guard Michael Thompson scored 20 points and the 'Cats won 72-64, despite E'Twaun Moore's 24 and Robbie Hummel's 20. That's now three straight as the Boilermakers take on Illinois next.

Great Day Of College Basketball

Today, January 9th, the beasts of the Big East Georgetown and UConn play each other. UConn is led by Jerome Dyson and big man Stanley Robinson well Georgetown is led by forward Greg Monroe. My prediction: Dyson will have a big game and the Huskies will come out with a big win.

In the ACC, number five Duke takes on seventeen Georgia Tech. Duke has a strong guard in Jon Scheyer but the Blue Devils need help inside. The Yellow Jackets are the opposite, a strong inside game with young phenom Derrick Favors and Gani Lawal. My prediction: Duke escapes with a close in as Scheyer scores a double-double.

Alabama Takes Down Texas

Last night, in the Citi BCS National Championship game it was 'Bama who took down Texas. Colt McCoy got injured early hurting Texas's chances but Garret Gilbert, the freshman who filled in showed that Texas has a bright future. Jordan Shipley had a monster game. In the past Heisman winners had a tough time in big games but Ingram scored 2 touchdowns.

SE:Vikings Clinch Bye, Ravens Win

In the NFC playoff mix, the Minnesota Vikings destroyed the New York Giants, 44-7 in the final game of the season to finish 12-4. The Giants finished off the season 8-8 a huge disappointment after starting off the season 5-0. Brett Favre had 316 pass yards and four touchdowns in the win. But, in order to clinch a first round bye, the Eagles had to lose to the Cowboys. The did, 24-0. Donavan McNabb played decent but Philly never got anything going. Now, the Cowboys finish 11-5 and will play the Eagles again in the playoffs against the 11-5 Eagles again. The Cardinals got beat by the Packers and will play against each other again.

In the AFC things got a little clearer, the Ravens (9-7) won 21-13 over the Raiders. The Texans (9-7) beat the Patriots but need the Jets to lose to the Bengals tonight. The game is currently in progress Jets leading 10-0. The Broncos (8-8) lost to the Chiefs eliminating them from the playoffs. Miami lost falling to 7-9 well Pittsburgh rolled on 30-24. The Ravens look like they have clinched and if the Jets keep things up they will clinch. Don't count out Houston or Pittsburgh.

BCS National Championship

Texas inched by Nebraska in the Big 12 championship well Alabama played great on their way past No.1 Florida. Now the two teams will face off. Alabama running back Mark Ingram and Greg McElroy will lead the offense. On defense, big tackle Terrence Cody is dominant well linebacker Rolando McClain is just as good. On speacial teams, Javier Arenas (right) is very skilled.
The 'Horns are led by the passing combo of Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley. On defense, talented end Sergio Kindle and defensive back Earl Thomas. The speacial teams is decent. All and all the Crimson Tide are the better team. Score:Alabama,38 Texas,28.

Florida Destroys Cincinnati, Ohio State Takes Down Oregon

Oh, what an interesting New Year's Day. In the granddaddy of them all No. 8 Ohio State proved that a Big Ten team can win the Rose Bowl. Terrell Pryor looked like a great quarterback sniping down receivers and being able to scramble when appropriate.
Meanwhile, Ohio State's defense took down Oregon's strongest weapon Jeremiah Masoli and the play action. Ohio finishes off the season 11-2 and in my mind should move up to four or five in the nation.

Two things killed Cincinnati last night in their horrible appearance in the Sugar Bowl in which they lost 51-24. Tackling Florida and their Gator offense and the loss of Brian Kelly. Kelly was an all-star coach leading a down Bearcat program to national supremacy. Well he's in Notre Dame and this is what he left at Cincinnati, a team that lost to a down Florida team by almost four touchdowns.

Sugar Bowl

You talk about big. Before this game both teams had many distractions Cincinnati losing Brian Kelly to Notre Dame and Florida is losing all-star coach Urban Meyer after this game. Cincinnati squeaked past Pittsburgh in the Big East championship but will still have some momentum. Florida lacks momentum but all in all is a better team. Score:Florida,31 Cincinnati,27.
